Working with stainless steel requires enhanced manufacturing skill. Fortunately here at Brooks Engineering we possess the knowhow to work with this specific material. Recently demonstrated when building a fabricated stainless platform from scratch
A local material processing company approached us a few months ago requiring a work platform to be fabricated. The platform was to allow service technicians to carry out inspections and service work on a conveyor motor at a height of approximately 2m. Whilst under normal circumstances this would have been a simple case of fabricating the platform from mild steel the local environment made this job a little different. The area in which the platform was located had large quantities of sulphuric acid nearby to the platform meaning that regular mild steel was out of the question due to its lack of corrosion resistance.
We were able to put together a framework fabricated from 304 stainless steel. Along with all fittings and fixtures also made from stainless steel. This meant that even if sulphuric acid were to come into contact with the platform the risk of corrosion weakening structural members was negated. To further eliminate the chance of corrosion damage, GRP flooring was utilised.
We always encourage prospective customers to involve us in the design. We try to offer added value through manufacturing knowledge. This usually increases the quality of the end product whilst reducing cost and timescale during production.
